Thank you for visiting my little slice of webspace.
Above and beneath the waves, my work and pleasure is about expanding the community of people who understand and feel the sentience and empathy of the non-human life that shares our planet. From creatures ordinary to exotic, I am after a fundamental essence that speaks across our bountiful differences of form and function. I will have succeeded if, in a captured moment of mutual regard, I have stirred one more heart to speak to another, or caused one more mind to newly imagine with an unlike creature, that sense of mutual sentience and kinship that is there, waiting to be recognized.
This recognition enriches our grasp of humanity’s place in the cosmic web; indeed, in this ever more intensely anthropocene epoch, my plea is that our own rational self interest will one day encompass our fellow earthlings and move us to provide for their right to continue.
Technical information: I use a Nikon DD500. Underwater, I add a subal housing and Sea and 2 Sea YS-D1 strobes. My go-to lenses underwater are Tokina 10 – 17, Sigma 17-70, and Nikon 60.
I do not often shoot for competition though over the years have gained some recognition through venues as publication in Nature’s Best Magazine, honors at Beneath the Sea and underwater photography.com international photo competitions for marine life and conservation categories (several), Ocean Conservancy’s 40th Anniversary image, and most recently in late 2014, an award of first place for wildlife at the metro DC Nature Visions photo expo.
This site contains only a small sampling of my images. Please inquire via the contact form if you are interested in seeing other creatures, or more views of a particular creature or place.
